Quartzite

Quartzite is a naturally mined metamorphic rock.

It is created when sand stone is compressed to extreme heat and pressure caused by tectonic plate move in the crust of the earth. The stone is cut from the earth into slabs which are later precisely cut to become countertops. The countertops are polished and sealed for beauty and durability.

Quartz countertops are often called engineered countertops/solid surface because they are fabricated from natural silicon dioxide and synthetic materials. Quartz fragments makes up about 93 +/- percent of the material. Blended with a binder and pigment and formed into countertop shaped material.

Quartzite Hardness and Durability:

Quartzite is harder than granite, and is quite durable. Quartzite will withstands heat well. Quartz countertops are hard too, but not as hard as quartzite. The resin used in creation quartz countertops is a plastic, so it is prone to melting in heat above 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

Quartzite Popularity: Growing

With quartzite you “get the best of many worlds”.

  • It’s look resembles marbles
  • It’s strength is like granite,
  • and it is less porous than other natural stones but it should still be sealed.
